Assignment 14.2

In this model, I designed my lesson plan website, and I felt proud of myself when I finished it because I hadn't made a website before, and this is first study. In the design process, I consider how to chose an appropriate model for my website, and how to meet the criteria of good educational website. I had to admit that I made some mistake at the beginning because I was so excited to created my website and forgot it is for students, I used garish  background and font colors, but I realized I was wrong when I saw the example of lesson plan website. Thus, I reconsidered my website design,  reduced some unnecessary decorations, and placed related graphics near to the texts. I tried to limit content on each page to full screen to minimize scrolling, but some content that I think is necessary to let students to know is still long. I tried to add some picture to break the long text so they don't fill the entire width of scree, and I hope that works.

I tried to add a discussion part into my website because I hope them could have a online discuss and post their work, but I didn't find it in website frame option. Unfortunately, I gave up that idea, but I hope to learn how to build a website by writing coding, so I could add that part.

Here is my lesson plan website: Metamorphous Painting  Hope you like it! :D

Assignment 13.2

This model, I learnt to make my curriculum lesson plan and integrate technological tool in my lesson plan. Combine with the knowledge that I had learnt in this class so far, I chose abstract formalism as my core curriculum concept and teacher students metamorphosis painting to understand the formalism. Also, I focus on Piet Mondrian's artwork and the changing. This video will be a perfect example:

I tried to write my curriculum lesson plan in standard format and combine with multiple intelligence-types, so I will use PowerPoint, videos, and group discussion to encourage students participate in the class. I hope I could interpret abstract formalism as clear as possible. There are three principles of web design: clear navigation, appropriate size and quality mater, and aesthetics. I need keep those in my mind to make a good website for teaching.

Assignment 12.2

This model I tried to shot my storyboard, and it challenged my thinking of making video. During the producing, I met three difficulties.

First issues was choosing an appropriate video angles and lighting. I hope my video can use nature light so that my painting color will be more real than under the lamp. Also, I used two angle to make different focus point, so audiences could follow it easier.

Second issues was keeping pace with painting process. My speak sometimes could keep pace with my painting process, and that would cause awkward silent in my video. Also, I often forget what I need to say during the painting because I don't speak a lot when I paint. Thus, I simplified my speech and skipped some painting process, so I could move on the next step. Also, I add some subtitles into my video, so audiences could know where I was saying.

Third issues was editing video. When I record my video, some noises also were recorded, so I really hope to find a way which can reduce the noises but doesn't hurt my voice. Also, I hope to find the way to compressed video into smaller size without loss of quality because my video is blurry now, but my original video is clear. Is that usually happened in video editing?

Here is my homemade video: Art Element: Values

Assignment 11.2

I'd like to use video in my future class, but I often use video from public recourse. This is first time I write a storyboard, and I spent a lot of time to select an appropriate topic to shot with my existing material. In storyboard, I use computer to draw the draft of values, but I think I could use pencils or oil color to express it, and that will be more visual to see how value works in the drawing or painting. Also, this topic is easy to do in my home or classroom, so I prepared to shot it.

Video can challenge our education approach. Massive online courses start quickly and bring tremendous impact and changing to the traditional education. Teaching object is changed from the minority learners to global learners, from individual teaching to collaborative teaching. Teaching method is changed from the step-by-step curriculum system to the individualized and autonomous learning. Digital video is so popular in class teaching process, and students changed from small class learning to global social collaborative learning. teaching improvement based on the traditional evaluation to based on data analysis. Now, it is the time of educational revolution.

Assignment 10.2

This week, I tried to produce my podcast of musical instrument, and I have to say it was a big challenge for me because I doesn't use Apple computers, so I need to find another way to produce it. Finally, I chose Corel VideoStudio to create my podcast. This software is great for video making, and I spent a lot of time to learn how to edit my pictures and record on different track. It provides some amazing effects, and I used one of them, but the video is blurry when I conveyed it to mp4 form, and I don't know why. Also, I worried about my pronunciation, so I recorded it many times. I hope it is clear, but it still have some noise, and I think this is the biggest problem which every podcast need to reduce.

In the podcast, I introduced the five different types of musical instrument. I like music, and I play piano, so I am interest about the musical topics. I would like to share some basis music knowledge with others. Here is the link of my podcast on Youtube. Hope you like it. XD

Assignment 9.2

This model we learnt a new media called podcast, and I think it is a revolution of communication. I think the most significance of web2.0 tools of the Internet is they build a wide platform for internet users to speak and share, so it transforms the audience from the information recipient producers to the disseminators. In the visual field, blog allows everyone can freely express their views and images. When the podcast was born, that means that the network logs becomes from silent to vocal. Information won’t be limited by visual area, and it had have taken the step for diverse media from the expression of three-dimensional images or text to express a combination of audio and video stage. This is an auditory revolution.

I haven’t used or view podcast before, but I like to listen the audiobooks. Those stories are fascinating, and I could just lie on the bed and hear the voice from iPad or iPhone. That is a relax way to accept those information, and it could also be used in teaching. Also, I think podcast focus on the individual and reflect personality. Many podcasters made their own discourse sounds which completely different from the traditional rules, and they feel joyful and satisfied of creative freedom through uploading video files to share with others.

Also, remember how to be a successful podcast, we need achieve those aspects:
l.  appropriate subject and matching music
lI.  a short lecture or explanation, should be in 20 mins
lII  good sound quality
Vl.  images changing consistently

Assignment 8.2

In model 8, I learnt the knowledge of cyber-bullying, and I think it becomes a very common phenomenon in our society that online harassment and intimidation increase quickly in kids and teenagers. Statistics shows that more than one-third of teenagers who used instant messaging and social networking sites had encountered bullying on the Internet in the United States, and it is often from their classmates. Bullies usually don't think online bullying can cause damage or a fault, they just think this is joking and play.
Cyber-bullying usually is anonymous. Bullies will use a false E-mail address and name to conceal. There is no doubt that cyber-bullying will cause moral hazard. For example, some bullies send instant messages one after another to harass or bullying other kids, such as "everyone hates you”, or "you're a freak ", etc. Some network bullies creating web sites to ridicule or insult the other children, such as the vote for "the 10 ugliest girl" for the university's online poll.
The motivation of cyber-bullying is complex, and it can range from boredom and the harasser seeking entertainment to personal vendettas, such as revenge, jealousy, righteousness, bigotry, fear, anger, or they want to get the attention of the target or others. (https://www.wiredsafety.org/subjects/cyberbullying.php).

I think cyber-bullying not only just occur in kids and teenagers, but also adults will be threatened. The infringement of public figure defamation cases increase quickly, such as insults, humiliation, threat, tracking, and sexual harassment, particularly women. Fortunately, although cyber-bullying can happen in the internet, but internet also has the ability to gather voice to against cyber-bullying. As long as people realize the existence of this problem and the seriousness of the threat, internet can give a perfect solution in the future, or it will be worthless.
It is gratifying to see people have started to refuse the cyber-bullying. Aftab and the US Justice Department recommend advising a target of cyber-stalking to take the following steps:
1. Tell the person not to make contact again.
2. Save all communications for evidence. Do not alter them in any way. Keep electronic copies, not just print-outs.
3. Save any information that suggests a violent threat and contact law enforcement.
4. If the harassment continues, contact the harasser's Internet service provider. The ISP is provided with instant messages. Most ISPs prohibit using their service for abusive purposes. An ISP can often intervene by directly contacting the stalker or closing his account.
5. Keep a record of your contacts with ISP officials or law enforcement officials.
6. When contacting police, provide specific details such as any tangible evidence you've collected. In cases of a serious threat, police can refer the matter to state or federal authorities for investigation. The stalker may be prosecuted in court.
7. If the target is afraid to act, find help through other resources, such as WiredSafety.

Assignment 7.3

In model 7, I learn how to create a wiki page for teaching, and I have to say I had struggled with settings, content, and workplace of wiki because this is first time I used it. I tried different website of wiki, one is wikispaces, other is zohowiki. They have different organization of pages, and I think wikispaces is better because the page design is more interesting and I can add discussion and project easily. Wikispaces provides a more effective way to communicate, so I prefer use wilispaces, and lot of my classmates like it, too.

I build two wiki in different website, and now I can compare them.

Assignment 6.3

This model I learnt about photographic technique, camera’s function, and editing photo. Actually, I always use point-and-shoot digital camera, and I doesn’t use any SLRs because I don’t understand how aperture and shutter Speed affect images. What I do is deciding use flash or not and changing the focal distance. After this class, I have a general cognition of the performance of the camera, but probably I won’t use that I a lot because I don’t know how to choose suitable aperture and shutter speed to shoot better. However, the composition of images inspired me a lot because that could also be used for drawing or painting, and I am sure my figure drawing teacher told about the rule of thirds and balance when he taught me how to choose the post of figure. I am happy to see more composition can be used for drawing.

Another exciting thing is I start to learn how to use Photoshop because I wonder it for a long time. I downloaded the Photoshop CC, started my 30 day free trip, and imaged “I’m going to play it!”  But, I have to say when I first see the interface of Photoshop and felt really confused where I should begin. I tried to edit my photo and totally be perplexed of filter, layer, gradient map, hue/saturation, and vibrancy. Oh, my God, I can figure that out. Thus, I searched teaching video online and study from ABC. Now I could say I am better than before, but still a rookie. I post my original photo, editing process, and my final work. I think the flower looks better now. LOL

Assignment 5.2

This model I learnt the basic rule of how to make an effective PowerPoint slide. I have to say I used PowerPoint a lot, and I was so glad those criteria because I could follow rules easier, but I got problem soon. I collect a lot of design elements, such as vector diagram, little gif, and lace trimming. This is my hobby, and I enjoy that. When I made a PowerPoint, I love to use those cute little images to decorate slides, but I realized soon I need to keep slides simple, which means no superfluous ornament, no rainbow, a few of words, it really challenged my normal style. I have to say few text without unnecessary decoration make slides sharp, elegant and refined, but I think add some image and color will have better visual effects.

Thus, I start to consider, should I give up the elaborate design of PowerPoint to make it simple? Is it simplicity on whose view? I study art education, not education. I am not only a teacher, but also am artist. When I interpret my presentation of one thing, I hope to express my aesthetics, too. Dose complex design against simplicity? What is the effective PowerPoint? Dose the rules against each other? At the last, I tried to keep the elements on the same rhythm and theme in my slides to achieve simplicity. I hope that works.

Also, this week discussed a sensitive issue: copyright. I always keep neutral before because plagiarism is so common, and a lot of authors or drawers have been plagiarized or plagiarized others. It seems everyone allow tacitly if no profit is made, using someone's idea without their permission is not a form of stealing. This events have been happened a lot in China, and plagiarist refused to admit that. Thus, I resolutely support reorganization without permission is copyright. There is something wrong in the root, and this behavior should be stop. End any excuse for illegal plagiarism, respect and cite the original work.

Assignment 4.3

In model 4, I learnt evaluating websites resources. That is unique way for me to identify the contents and purpose with the codes at the ends of URLs because I didn't know different domains stand for different meaning. Most of websites that I had viewed often end with “com” in China, so I didn't realized what the URL can tell me. After I read the article “Evaluating Web Pages:Techniques to Apply & Questions to Ask”, I was inspired that URLs can help you quickly find what you want to know and how much information can be trusted. Also, it remained me that I need treat those information carefully, not only they may be false, but also they should be cited correctly. Sometimes I was confused that I want to quote some unique perspective from others, but I couldn't find the copyright, so I just gave up.

Also, this model taught how to use Excel. I had used it many time in university because I was the monitor in my class, and I have to count scores and make transcript for whole class at every end of the semester. Sometimes, I would use Excel to collect information as well, such as phone number, address, or others. I have to say Excel is one of my favorite tools, and it is clear and multinational.

Another thing is the rubric design. I think a clear and flexible rubric is necessary for teacher and students, and it should be specific to build a goal for curriculum. Also, rubric should be designed to be suitable for all individual as much as possible.

Assignment 3.2

I have been learning integration technology into art education settings for three week, and all is going well so far.

In the first model, I learnt the development of technology in art education. From Sumerian clay tablet in ca. 2600 BC to Internet in 20st- century, the argument around the technology has never stopped. That is interesting to look at those question because some fears that people have had about the negative effects of new technology on students become true now, and I was inspired those fears and associate to our reality of education situation. When education try integrate technology into art education, such as Internet, educator also need consider the potentially dangerous of technology. For example, students depend on Google search or Wikipedia too much, and they may be easily affected by false on-line information. Also, students may divert their attention because they will lack self-control when they use phone or laptop.

In the model 2, I discussed the five characteristics Ferdig said are necessary in order to fit into the constructivist model of learning around evaluating the educational value of technology. This is my first time learnt it, and I think that is the most important theory in this model. Ferdig stated the criteria for Internet media tools application in education, and that is significant for modern education because we had turned in the digital times, and education need be match with the realty of today. However, not all of the resources are appropriate for teaching. By Ferdig criteria, educator can assess new technology tools that may be various comments from now on.

In the model 3, I learnt the anatomy of a blog and evaluate the different educational setting for individual approach. I very like the examples and resource that Kimberly offered. It is interesting to hear the diverse views from different place, and my classmate James stated a good point about blogs not being kept up. Actually I think that is common in personal blog, and I wonder how many kids could keep up their blog since they started to write it. Also, I think students like using social network, such as Facebook and Twitter, but I think that is different because Facebook is just like fast food or candy, and blog like coffee or wine that need thought. Sometimes that we can see many students did an amazing design of assignment but the content lacked depth. When educator train students write blog, this issue should be paid enough attention.

Hoping everything goes well in the future!

Welcome to my blog

This is my first time to use Google Blogger. I will discuss and explore how to incorporate technology into art education.
